How Our Ovulation Calculator Works

Our Ovulation Calculator uses a common method to estimate your ovulation date:

1. Last Menstrual Period (LMP): You provide the first day of your last period.
2. Average Cycle Length: You input the average number of days in your menstrual cycle (from the start of one period to the start of the next).
3. Ovulation Estimation: Ovulation typically occurs about 12-16 days (often averaged to 14 days) *before* your next period starts. The calculator estimates your next period and then counts back to predict ovulation.
4. Fertile Window: Your most fertile days are generally the 5 days leading up to ovulation, plus the day of ovulation itself. This is because sperm can survive for several days.

For example, if your LMP was May 1st and your cycle length is 28 days, your next period would be estimated around May 29th. Counting back 14 days from May 29th gives an estimated ovulation date of May 15th.

Note: This is an estimation. For precise ovulation tracking, consider methods like basal body temperature (BBT) monitoring or ovulation predictor kits (OPKs).
