How Is My Due Date Calculated?

Our Due Date Estimator uses a common method based on your Last Menstrual Period (LMP) and average cycle length:

  1. Standard Gestation: A typical pregnancy lasts about 280 days (or 40 weeks) from the first day of the LMP, assuming a 28-day menstrual cycle.
  2. Cycle Length Adjustment: If your average cycle length is different from 28 days, the calculator adjusts the due date. For each day your cycle is longer than 28 days, one day is added to the due date. For each day shorter, one day is subtracted. For example, if your cycle is 30 days (2 days longer than 28), 2 days are added to the 280-day estimate.
  3. LMP Input: You provide the first day of your LMP. This is the starting point for the calculation.

This method provides a good estimate for many, but it's important to remember that this baby due date calculator offers an approximation.

Understanding Your Due Date

  • It's an Estimate: Your estimated due date is not a deadline. Most babies are born within a week or two of their due date.
  • Full-Term Pregnancy: A full-term pregnancy is generally considered to be between 39 and 40 weeks and 6 days.
  • First Trimester Ultrasound: Often, an ultrasound in the first trimester can provide a more accurate estimation of the gestational age and due date.
  • Consult Your Doctor: Always discuss your due date and pregnancy timeline with your healthcare provider. They can offer the most accurate information based on your specific situation.
